The room is elegant, two stone gargoyals guard the entrance. Hangings in each house color adorn the walls. The windows all face north, but the room is filled with sunlight. Books lay about on tables, their subjects varying from Advanced Hexes to Beginning Potion Making. Zack is hidden behind a stack of books and rolls of parchment. He waves before returning to his work.
(Discuss Hogwarts happenings, introduce yourself, etc.)

"Howdy Jenni!" Zack hailed from behind his stack of work, "I hope the little dunderheads are better for you than for me. But maybe I'm hoping for too much," he shrugged. "Pop in more often. We throw wild parties in here."

"Oh, wild ones. End of the year, end of term, for no apparent reason. It's quite fun. We nick food from the kitchens, I get some choice items from Zonko's, and it's just another Common Room party," he lamented. "As for class, it's only as enjoyable as you make it. Me? I intend to have some fun with them..." he grinned, "But I hear Charms is easier to like than Potions."

"Excuse ME?" Jenni rises from the table, "I should think not! Charms is the most practical of all magical skills. who walks around w/ cauldrens in their robes? as for easy an muggle chef could throw some ingredients in a pot following a recipie. Charms take strength and consentration." after throwing her hands up in the air in frustration, Jenni regains her composure and sits back down again. "but im sure you already knew that" as she smiles innocently

"You think I hate Charms or I'm just biased against them because they're not Potions? Good lord, no!" Zack laughed heartily. "Accio quill!" He said lazily, and caught the eagle feather quill that obliged to fly into his outstretched fingers. He made dipped in in some red ink, marked a grade and turned back to Jenni. "Besides, I only made the comment that Charms are easier to like, or enjoy, or be fond of than Potions. Probably because Charms are so practical and handy in real life. There really was no need to get defensive. Nobody much thinks about Potions unless they're in dire need of a Headache Relief Draught. As far as I'm concerned, that's more of a job market for me. Muggle chefs may be able to make food by thowing things in a pot and incinerating it, but there is a reason that my class exists at Hogwarts. Ever wonder why Muggle chefs can't make Strengthening Potions? Confusing Concotions? It's magic. Just because it's more scientific than waving a wand around foppishly and saying some incantation, it doesn't mean it's completely unimportant or obsolete. "And you are quite right," he added on second thought, "I wouldn't think of carrying a whole cauldron around with me; it's too big and bulky to be bothered with. I just keep an arsenal of handy concoctions I've made," he smirked.

"oh. well sorry" replied Jenni sheepishly. "i always get a little defensive over my art. it seems im always underestimated because of my height." gesturing at her petite figure. "i always appreciated it for its practicality. i suppose it must be difficult in your area of teaching where students find it rather useless. personally i myself was fond of potions for is scientific nature. of course charms was my favorite subject but it often reminded me of muggle cooking. i do have quite a respect for chefs. never could cook much myself but i make a mean batch of sugar cookies." she smiled as if remembering something from long ago. then remembering she was still in the mists of a conversation she added "ya its a good idea to carry around some useful potions, even those of us who dont specialize in potion like to carry some useful concotions."

"The kids hate the class, I couldn't care less. If they don't like it, it's only my job to see them pass. If they do happen to like it, more power to them. I always found it odd though... I can make any potion you can imagine, but I can't cook. I really don't know why... I suspect it's just a talent some people have."

Vivian enters the room and sits in a chair as far from everyone as she can get. She picks up a random book and starts reading it upside down but doesn't seem to notice

"Hi Vivian! um...ya if you can't see without glasses then you might consider putting them on."
Turning back to Zack. "i'm sure if you enjoyed cooking as much as you enjoy Potions you would a very good chef. its really how much energy you put into it. I find that if the students dont like the class they put less energy into it and dont do as well. then i have to put the energy into making sure they pass. I mean Charms arent just useful they're nessasary. everyone has to be able to at least the basic Charms. I have to make sure they can at least do those."

"Probably. I can't imagine it'd be much different. Personally, I never could stand Divination and I never could get the hang of seeing the certain shapes. Nothing on you Vivian," he called back, "Not to mention the old teacher was a bit of a loony. I never thought there was much use for Divination in the world because I'm more or less one of those, live in the moment people. I see no need to look at the future. But to my credit, I always did see the importance of the other classes and paid attention and luckily found my forte. The only reason I took Divination was to see who would die that year."
